AN ambulance medic was sacked over an “inappropriate” sexual relationship with a vulnerable former Selfridges worker who accidentally overdosed. Jade Rayner, 28, was found dead at her flat in Hazel Grove, Stockport, Greater Manchester last March after taking a cocktail of drink and drugs. Her social care worker at the time said she believed Jade was "sexually exploited" by an emergency medical technician (EMT), who was later dismissed. The inquest heard that the EMT, who wasn’t named, was part of an ambulance crew that attended to a 999 call at Jade’s flat in September 2019, the Manchester Evening News reports. The court heard that Miss Rayner appeared drunk, was covered in bruises and wrongly believed someone was in her property. Blind Pakistani Student is Fully Able to Win Rhodes Scholarship
For Khansa Maria, a student at Georgetown University’s campus in Qatar, her advocacy work for people with disabilities is personal. Maria is blind and has faced disability challenges growing up in Pakistan. And she will use that experience, she said, when she heads to Oxford University next fall as Pakistan’s 2021 Rhodes Scholar-elect , to pursue a master's degree in evidence-based policy intervention and social evaluation. “I do have a disability, I am blind, and I firsthand experienced the impacts of not having an inclusive society,” Maria said, noting she wants to give back. “I do have a certain responsibility to my community to improve things to the extent that I can or at least lend my skills or my experience to the benefit of future blind people from Pakistan,” she said. British Airways mid-air emergency as passenger’s mobile phone bursts into flame sparking ‘tornado’ of smoke
A BRITISH Airways flight was plunged into a mid-air emergency after a passenger’s mobile phone burst into flames - sparking a “tornado” of smoke. Flight attendants rushed to extinguish the blaze during an overnight flight from Miami to Heathrow. A shocking picture shows the red iPhone completely destroyed by the blaze and the back cover completely singed off - leaving the inside of the device exposed. The passenger had been asleep on her flat-bed seat on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet, which was just 40 minutes from landing. She was woken by a flight crew announcement and moved her seat upright from its flat-bed position - without realising her iPhone had slipped down the side while being charged. Boy, 10, riding ‘Segway-style’ scooter seriously injured after crash with truck
A SCHOOLBOY riding a "Segway-style" scooter suffered serious injuries after being hit by a truck. The 10-year-old was rushed to hospital following the crash in Manchester on Easter Sunday. The youngster was riding a seated scooter when he was struck by a Ford Emergency services rushed to the scene at the junction of Baycroft The child was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury, where he is still recovering. Following the crash, the area was cordoned off and several police vehicles were stationed at the scene. Officers said no arrests have been made and their enquiries are ongoing. Police are appealing for anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV footage to come forward.
