Rabalais: Three key questions for LSU football that were answered (mostly) in spring game

· April 18, 2021 ·

What conclusions there are to be drawn from a spring game or spring practice in general are highly subjective. And so much guesswork. What looks like a strength on one side of the ball may just be overpowering a weakness on the other. And what looks like a depth chart chiseled in stone may be just two lines of players drawn in the sand. That said, there are key questions coming out of LSU spring practice that need to be addressed. We’ll start with: Here's what Ed Orgeron, LSU players had to say after spring game: 'We showed out today' LSU football got back on the field and, as expected, the four-way quarterback competition dominated the day. 1. Who will be the starting quarterback? We saw all four quarterbacks in Saturday’s Spring Game: Myles Brennan, Max Johnson, TJ Finley and new freshman Garrett Nussmeier. There appeared to be a clear delineation between the two camps, Brennan and Johnson in Group A and Finley and Nussmeier in Group B, in terms of … [Read more...] about Rabalais: Three key questions for LSU football that were answered (mostly) in spring game

Players on 5 more NFL teams say no to in-person work

· April 18, 2021 ·

Players on five more NFL teams will be skipping in-person voluntary workouts because of the pandemic: the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. The players posted through their union that they are joining 11 other groups who previously said they would not be on hand for the sessions. This weekend players from the other 16 clubs are expected to announce plans. The offseason sessions begin on Monday, and on Wednesday the league sent a memo to all 32 teams saying the first four weeks of the voluntary program will be virtual. The plan is to then transition to in-person work at team facilities. Last year, the offseason programs were all done virtually and training camp was pushed back because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Saying no to in-person workouts earlier this week were players from the Super Bowl champion Buccaneers, Broncos, Seahawks, Giants, Bears, Raiders, Lions, Browns, Steelers and Patriots. The Jets said “many” of their … [Read more...] about Players on 5 more NFL teams say no to in-person work

Ryan Day says nothing decided on Ohio State QB battle

· April 18, 2021 ·

The Ohio State quarterback battle rages on. After Saturday’s spring game, the Buckeyes don’t have their set signal caller yet. CJ Stroud , Kyle McCord and Jack Miller all had their moments, but head coach Ryan Day isn’t going to name a starter just yet. In fact, he saw Saturday’s performances coming. Speaking with the media after the game, Day told everyone this is what’s been happening at practice: healthy competition. "This was very similar to what this whole spring has been,” Day said, via ESPN. “Some good, some not so good and a lot of learning opportunities there. There are flashes here and there, and then there are just some learning opportunities. The race is on over the next few months to see who can make the next stride." Day also commented that no matter who gets the gig, they all seem really prepared based on what he saw Saturday. “We tried to get a little bit of a two-minute going at the end of the half, some red zone stuff, all … [Read more...] about Ryan Day says nothing decided on Ohio State QB battle

Ed Orgeron outlines plan to name starting quarterback for LSU

· April 18, 2021 ·

LSU struggled last season after coming off an undefeated national championship season. In 2021, they’ll have Myles Brennan , Max Johnson , TJ Finley and Garrett Nussmeier all vying for the starting quarterback gig. Brennan started out hot, but an injury paved the way for others last season. Head coach Ed Orgeron has more of a concrete plan this season to find the right guy. Speaking with the media after LSU’s spring game on Saturday , Orgeron outlined how the team will decide the starting quarterback in camp. "I'll have to look at it on film, but I'm looking at Myles 11-for-15, 106 (yards),” Orgeron said. “I think that Max was 8-of-13, 77 (yards), Garrett 7-of-12, TJ 4-of-9. I think that what you saw out there today is what you're seeing in spring ball. We come off the field one day and Garrett will be the best quarterback. The next day was TJ. The next day was Myles. The next day was Max. "I think that when we come back to camp, we're going to … [Read more...] about Ed Orgeron outlines plan to name starting quarterback for LSU
