THE move to stop direct distribution of food to the homeless during Ramadan will cut down on wastage and keep city streets clean, says Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Association for the Homeless and Needy. Its chairman Rashdan Rashid said Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) decision to stop non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals from doing so would also ensure that only those who truly needed food would get it. “NGOs and individuals are not the only ones who are going to distribute food. “Hundreds of Ramadan bazaar traders in the capital city will also plan to distribute their unsold food. “This happens every year, so it is best to have a designated place for the food to be received and distributed accordingly, ” he said. World’s largest nam prik at food festival
PHUKET CITY (SAPHAN HIN): The four-day “Phuket Local Food Festival” started on Tuesday with the preparation of what the organizers have declared is the largest batch of nam prik (chili dipping sauce) the world has ever seen. The festival, organized by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (OrBorJor), aims to promote Thai food to holiday makers to demonstrate that Thai cuisine is not only delicious, but that it is prepared with exemplary standards of hygiene. All vendors at the festival prepare food in compliance with the Public Health Ministry’s “Clean Food, Good Taste” project standards. Feb IIP contracts 3.6%; inflation rises to 5.52% in March
India's industrial production contracted by 3.6 per cent in February, official data showed on Monday. According to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), manufacturing sector output declined by 3.7 per cent in February 2021. Illustration: Dominic Xavier/ Rediff.com Mining output slipped 5.5 per cent, while power generation grew by 0.1 per cent in February. The IIP had grown by 5.2 per cent in February 2020. During April-February, IIP contracted by 11.3 per cent compared to one per cent growth in the corresponding period of 2019-20. Industrial production has been hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March last year when it contracted by 18.7 per cent. Retail inflation rose to 5.52 per cent in March, mainly on account of higher food prices, government data showed on Monday.
