BBC foreign correspondent Fergal Keane is to delve into his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for a Horizon special, talking frankly about the many years he has battled crippling anxiety and depression. The trusted BBC foreign correspondent is best-known for his decades of reporting from some of the world’s worst war zones. But as a result of his work, Fergal has long suffered from an acute form of PTSD. It's a year since he withdrew from conflict reporting and revealed his condition. Now Fergal, 60, is making a very personal film in which he explores his diagnosis and its impact. Where did the PTSD start and what caused it? Why does he suffer from it, when some other colleagues might appear - so far - to be unscathed by their experiences of war? Is there a genetic component? These questions will motivate Fergal’s investigation and contemplation throughout the film as he looks into the latest scientific thinking and undergoes therapy for the condition. Fergal says: “I … [Read more...] about BBC’s Fergal Keane to explore PTSD in TV special after years reporting from war zones

Conservatives aren’t more fearful than liberals, study finds
Are conservatives more afraid of threats than liberals? Political psychologists have long found evidence that people on the right are more sensitive to scary stuff, on average, than people on the left, a basic psychological difference thought to drive some political disagreements between the two groups. But new research suggests that's overly simplistic. In a new international study, conservatives and liberals both responded to threats —— but they responded more strongly to different kinds of threats. Related: Why did the Democratic and Republican parties switch platforms? "This link between threat and conservative beliefs, or conservative ideology, is just not simple," said study leader Mark Brandt, a psychology professor at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. "It depends on a lot of different things. It depends on the type … [Read more...] about Conservatives aren’t more fearful than liberals, study finds

Narendra Modi Stadium: India Government issues clarification over Motera Stadium name change; find out
The commotion erupted soon after President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, which has been branded as the 'Narendra Modi Stadium.' The social media space was flooded with remarks including by some leaders of the Congress and other Opposition parties who alleged that the renaming exercise amounted to an "insult" to Sardar Patel. Javadekar, however, told reporters that only the Motera stadium has been renamed and the complex continues to be named after Vallabhbhai Patel. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was present alongside Javadekar at the media briefing after a cabinet meeting, took a swipe at the Congress leaders, asking whether party chief Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi have so far praised the world's tallest statue of Sardar Patel erected at Kevadiya in Gujarat. Prasad continued, "I want to say this with full responsibility that a tourist place getting global praise has not been visited yet or praised by the two Congress … [Read more...] about Narendra Modi Stadium: India Government issues clarification over Motera Stadium name change; find out
Maha survey from March 1-10 to find out-of-school students
MUMBAI: After several reports that suggested an increased learning disparity among students due to the Covid-19 resultant lockdown, the education department is undertaking a 10 day survey to identify out-of-school children and bring them back into the formal system. In a government resolution issued on Tuesday, the department set up committees at the state and district level to undertake a drive between March 1 and 10 to identify students between the age of 6 and 18 years who are out-of-school. Officials from various government departments will be roped in for the same. “With the pandemic in play last year and schools shut, we have been faced with new challenges with respect to out-of-school students. There is a risk that with higher migration, there could be a rise in the number of children, including girls falling out of the formal education system and falling prey to child labour or child marriages. Thus, it is important to bring the students back to school,” said the GR. … [Read more...] about Maha survey from March 1-10 to find out-of-school students
