Police investigating man for not wearing mask in grocery store, making racist remarks

SINGAPORE: The police are investigating a 52-year-old man for making offensive and racist remarks, and for not wearing a mask in breach of COVID-19 "circuit breaker" measures. The incident happened at about 6pm on Friday (Apr 17) when the man visited a grocery store at Block 651 Jurong West Street 61 to buy a packet of soy milk. "The store’s female Chinese store supervisor denied the man entry and declined to sell him the item, as he was not wearing a mask," police said in a news release on Saturday. "The man took offence and hurled racist remarks and vulgarities at the supervisor. He also attributed the source of the COVID-19 virus to the Chinese people." Police reports lodged against Telegram chat group ‘SG Nasi Lemak’, investigations ongoing

SINGAPORE: Police said on Friday (Oct 4) that they have received reports against the Telegram chat group "SG Nasi Lemak" and that investigations are ongoing. The chat group, which is no longer accessible, is said to have had tens of thousands of members, some of whom shared obscene photos and videos of women. Word of the Telegram group first surfaced after several women reported finding their photos shared on the platform. On Sep 30, Twitter user Darcel Anastasia wrote that she had been "mentioned" in the chat group and appealed for those with information about the post to contact her. She also uploaded a purported screengrab of the chat with the image of a woman in it. The screen capture showed that there were 44,637 members at the time. A screengrab posted on Twitter by user Mishap_bella also showed that the chat had more than 44,000 members. Police investigate 216 people for suspected involvement in scams

SINGAPORE: A total of 216 people are being investigated for their suspected involvement in scams, said the police on Saturday (Feb 27). The suspects, comprising 145 men and 71 women, are aged between 16 and 73. They are believed to be involved in 467 cases of scams as scammers or money mules, in which victims purportedly lost more than S$3.48 million, said the police in a news release. Police NSF on trial for aiming phone camera at female officer showering in training camp

SINGAPORE: While he was training with the police as a full-time national serviceman, a man allegedly trespassed into a women's toilet in the training camp and aimed his phone camera at an officer who was showering. Jonathan Chua Wei Cong, now 23, went on trial on Thursday (Nov 26) for one count of insulting a woman's modesty and another of trespass. The court heard that he was posted to a unit with the Singapore Police Force between January and March last year. On Mar 12 last year, Chua ended his theory lesson at the main block of the unit and went with a few other servicemen to return their books to the locker room. Teens found vaping in MRT train issued warnings, fined: HSA

SINGAPORE: The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said on Friday (Jul 17) it has taken enforcement action against three teenagers who had used an electronic vaporiser while they were in an MRT train. Two of them, aged 13 and 16, were issued conditional warnings requiring them to complete a community rehabilitative programme and stay crime-free for 12 months. The teens, one of whom is 18, were also fined S$200 to S$500 for other related offences detected under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act. In a press release, HSA said it was alerted to a video of the teens using an e-vaporiser on Mar 29 this year. They were identified by officers from the Public Transport Security Command of the Singapore Police Force.
