On Tuesday the US Senate confirmed former Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke to lead the Department of the Interior, and on Wednesday it confirmed former Texas Governor Rick Perry to lead the Department of Energy. Trump Led An “All-Out Assault” On The EPA. Now Biden Has To Rebuild It.
After four years at the wheel, the Trump administration came closer to taking down the Environmental Protection Agency than many employees thought was possible. On the campaign trail in 2016, Donald Trump said he wanted to dismantle the agency — responsible for reining in pollution in the US for the last 50 years — into “ little tidbits .” As president, he boasted about gutting dozens of the EPA’s “ job-killing ” environmental rules governing clean air, climate, water, and toxic waste. His political appointees sidelined EPA scientists and took marching orders from big polluters. Climate change, once an agency priority, was erased from its website . “I had never experienced an attack like that,” Gary Morton, who worked at the EPA for 26 years before retiring in October 2019, told BuzzFeed News. “We’re supposed to protect human health and the environment. But, through his dismantling the existing framework of environmental protection, we were no longer doing that.” Now, … [Read more...] about Trump Led An “All-Out Assault” On The EPA. Landlord Says She Has Not Received Rent On House She Owns In Over A Year, And Moratorium Is Tying Her Up
CHICAGO (CBS) — The moratorium on evictions is meant to protect people from losing everything during the pandemic. But CBS 2’s Tara Molina found one landlord who has not received rent in more than a year. She started the eviction process, but now she says she is caught in a moratorium mess – and out thousands of dollars. RELATED: Republicans Mock Illinois House Democrats: Meet The New Rules, Same As Old Ones The landlord told us no one has lived the house she owns in Morgan Park for a while. A man who called himself a family member of the tenant showed up and told us that’s true. But because of the moratorium on evictions, we’re told that doesn’t matter in court. When Molina knocked on the door of the house, there was nobody home. And with our being told no one lives there, that was not a surprise. But then, a man showed up with keys. “I don’t live here,” he said. “I’m just a family member.” The man called himself a family member of the woman who used to live there. … [Read more...] about Landlord Says She Has Not Received Rent On House She Owns In Over A Year, And Moratorium Is Tying Her Up
Trump Order on Offshore Drilling Vital for Alaska to Generate Revenue
© Sputnik / Yuriy Lushin Trump’s Order on Offshore Drilling Marks ‘End of Shale Era’ – Russian Minister FAIRBANKS (Sputnik) — In April, Trump signed an executive order that directs the Department of Interior to conduct a review of the existing five-year program for oil and gas development for the US Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) under which oil and gas drilling is forbidden in both Chukchi and the Beaufort Seas off the northern shores of Alaska. "It would be important for the state of Alaska to be able to generate revenue from oil and gas," Fleener said commenting on Trump's initiative. "One of the concerns we have in the state now is that our revenue stream is declining, and we are having economic troubles like the rest of world that depends on oil. So, one of our objectives at the state is to put more oil in a pipeline. Any moratorium on developing oil resources makes it difficult." Fleener, however, added that while offshore drilling would be good for the state, there … [Read more...] about Trump Order on Offshore Drilling Vital for Alaska to Generate Revenue
