Experts say cannabis could generate up to Bt8 billion for Thailand’s pharmaceutical industry over the next five years, but sadly farmers stand to make very little from growing the herb crop. Last year, Thailand removed cannabis and hemp leaves from its list of banned narcotics (seeds and buds remain banned). Chiang Rai will open the Khua Silapa (Art Bridge) Project in February to be a pavilion for fellow artists. It’s a two-story pavilion, refurbished by ceramist Somluk Pantiboon. Inside, the pavilion will house a gallery, art school, restaurant, cafe, library and souvenir shop, perfect for folks and tourists to hangout during the day.
