REUTERS: Nestle will pay US$2 billion to buy the remaining stake in Aimmune Therapeutics Inc , gaining full ownership of the first U.S.-approved peanut allergy treatment which has struggled with a slow launch due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nestle said on Monday its offer for Aimmune values the California-based drugmaker, in which it already has a stake of around 25.6per cent, at US$2.6 billion. Aimmune's shares more than doubled on Monday, just shy of Nestle's offer price of US$34.50 per share. The U.S. company's shares have slumped this year, as the pandemic led to many clinician's offices remaining shut, leading to a slow launch of its therapy, Palforzia, which was approved in January. Shares "started 2020 right about at this level before the pandemic, and resultant shut-down of allergy clinics across the U.S. essentially killed the launch of Palforzia," Piper Sandler analyst Christopher Raymond said. "As pandemic-related disruption recedes and Palforzia's true demand … [Read more...] about Nestle gets peanut allergy treatment with US$2 billion Aimmune buyout

WASHINGTON: Top government infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci said on Friday (Sep 11) he disagreed with President Donald Trump's assessment the United States has "rounded the corner" on the coronavirus pandemic, saying the statistics are disturbing. Fauci, the outspoken director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the United States was starting the flu season with a high baseline of around 40,000 new cases a day and deaths are averaging around 1,000 daily. Trump, who has admitted playing down the severity of the virus since it emerged early this presidential election year, said on Thursday he believed the United States was "rounding the corner" on the crisis. "I have to disagree with that, because, if you look at the thing that you just mentioned, the statistics ... they are disturbing," Fauci said on MSNBC. "If you're talking about getting back to a degree of normality which resembles where we were prior to COVID, it's going to be well … [Read more...] about Fauci disagrees with Trump on US ’rounding the corner’, cites ‘disturbing’ COVID-19 statistics
Kombucha is everywhere – from supermarket shelves to cafes, the local bar scene and even your health-conscious friend who has a jar of the stuff brewing at home. But if you think it’s a new beverage, people in China were already making and drinking it thousands of years ago. The fermented sugared tea (that’s what it is essentially) is probably the latest drink to join detox juices, smoothies, protein shakes and a menagerie of health beverages in recent years. Dr. Anthony Fauci , the country's leading expert on infectious disease, has outlined the steps he believes schools need to take for in-person teaching to return. Fauci, 80, the White House's chief medical adviser and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was asked in an interview about the plans to re-open schools and what resources they will need to operate safely. "Teachers are high priority to get vaccinated as essential workers and schools need adequate infrastructure in place to be safe for staff and children," he told Newsweek. "They need resources to be able to obviously get masks for all the children, to be able to upgrade the ventilation systems, to get the proper personal protective equipment," the doctor said, adding that schools also need resources to provide for social distancing. Schools have been ordered to fully re-open in four states—Arkansas, Florida, Iowa and Texas—according to Education Week data. In West Virginia, some … [Read more...] about Dr. Fauci Outlines What Schools Need For In-Person Teaching to Return
