By Eden NoronhaCut down your base makeup to just one product to cover the problem area It seems pretty excessive to apply primer, strobe cream, foundation, concealer and then contour products on your face when you just have to go to the grocery store or run an errand during the day. Sure, we all have insecurities when it comes to our skin and the most common fear is of being asked whether you are sick just because you haven’t put any makeup on. Dark circles and dark spots are something most of us have and while we try to fix these skin issues, having to wear tons of makeup just to cover it up on a regular day is just too much to ask of us. Your skin needs to breathe! How will it get a chance to recover if makeup is clogging your pores all day? Besides, for people with oily, acne prime, and combination skin types, heavy base makeup can make your skin feel uncomfortable in fewer hours and will make your skin look cakey or shiny. Wearing protective face masks due to the pandemic … [Read more...] about Ace the base

Legacy of legendary Nigerian musician, activist gets fresh look
Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti inspired millions of Africans and some of the biggest names in western pop with the Afrobeat sound he created and his heroic struggle against an oppressive military dictatorship. Now, 17 years after his death, Fela's legacy is getting a fresh look in a new film, CBS News' Anthony Mason reports. "He's small but has enormous presence, who moves so gracefully. Big smile, but burning eyes with a kind of hurt and also intensity and rage that I think captivates you," said Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney. "You think, wow!" Gibney combed through 1,000 hours of archival film for his new documentary, "Finding Fela." The film tells the story of the man who, for nearly three decades, led a one-man revolution with his music. "Here was a guy who sat around his compound nearly naked, almost all the time, maybe a Speedo on, holding forth, usually with a huge number of women all around," Gibney said, "but at the same time was going toe to toe … [Read more...] about Legacy of legendary Nigerian musician, activist gets fresh look
Buffalo mayor calls video of police shoving 75-year-old protester “horrific”
The mayor of Buffalo, New York has called the video showing police in the city shoving protester Martin Gugino earlier this month "horrific," and said he does not believe the push by officers was "necessary." The video, in which Gugino appears to fall hard enough for blood to pool around his head as officers walked past where he lay still, sparked nationwide anger amid anti-police brutality protests. The 75-year-old is recovering after being in critical condition at the hospital, and the two officers involved were suspended without pay and charged with second-degree assault . Brown said law enforcement are trained to use common sense. "I don't believe common sense was used," he told "CBS This Morning: Saturday" co-host Jeff Glor. When he first saw the video of Gugino being shoved, Brown said he was "immediately praying" for the man's health. "I immediately thought about: Is he gonna be okay?" he said. "But then had to reach out very quickly to the management of … [Read more...] about Buffalo mayor calls video of police shoving 75-year-old protester “horrific”
Scientists stumbled onto toothy deep-sea “top predator,” and named it after elite sumo wrestlers
A sunny winter day in 2016 found marine biologist Yoshihiro Fujiwara anchored off the coast of central Japan, measuring pudgy cusk eels, when a hubbub suddenly erupted aboard ship. The crew of the Shonan Maru had just landed a big, bizarre-looking fish. "Wow! We got a coelacanth!" they joked as they hauled up a specimen so large it evoked the legendary "living fossil" species found only in Africa and Indonesia. Fujiwara, whose specialty is "whale fall" communities — the rich ecosystems that spring up around and feed off whale carcasses — was equal parts thrilled and skeptical. "It was exciting," he told CBS News. "But this is a very well-studied bay." Indeed it is. Researchers have been building a taxonomy of specimens from Suruga, Japan's deepest bay, since the 19th century. The area is also one of the most heavily fished in the world. Surely, Fujiwara thought, someone had spotted this colossal creature before. Amazingly, no one had. Fujiwara and his team from the Japan … [Read more...] about Scientists stumbled onto toothy deep-sea “top predator,” and named it after elite sumo wrestlers
U.K. hit with biggest economic decline in more than 300 years
The United Kingdom is facing its worst recession since The Great Frost of 1709 — back when the American colonies were still British, and Benjamin Franklin was just 3 years old. Residents have been trading at Borough Market for at least 800 years. It's still open, but now, on most days, it's close to deserted. "It's almost crippling, really. We've had to be really careful, and a bit you know inventive to survive," Charlie Foster told CBS News' Holly Williams. Foster's family has been selling fruit and vegetables in London for four generations, employing more than 50 people. But they've had to furlough half of them. Foster said he doesn't think the business could survive another year of this. "Another year, no, we wouldn't be able to survive that long," Foster said. While the U.S. economy shrank by 3.5% last year, the U.K. economy contracted by nearly 10%, and economists believe it will take longer to recover. In a wealthy part of Central London, near where fashionable … [Read more...] about U.K. hit with biggest economic decline in more than 300 years
