It would be a Friday, mid-afternoon, and Wilson would be road-tripping to see his quarterback tutor, John Beck, in southern California. On these trips, Wilson alternated between podcasts and an audiobook. (Steve Young’s lessons of the benefits of adversity in “ QB: My Life Behind the Spiral ” resonated strongly.) Wilson put his body on mind-clearing autopilot, driving through southwest Utah, skirting through 28 miles of northwest Arizona, then into the Pacific Time Zone, through the Vegas sprawl in southern Nevada, into the High Desert of southeastern California, into the SoCal ‘burbs and crashing at the home of … [Read more...] about FMIA: New Insight On NFL’s 17-Game Schedule. 2019 Jeep Cherokee Gets A More Traditional Face, Roomier Interior
Plus a 200-pound diet and a new 2.0-liter turbo engine. The unconventional look of the Jeep Cherokee caused quite a stir when it was revealed at the 2013 New York Auto Show. As in, a lot of critics hated the way it looked. “It was very progressive, modern,” admits Mike Manley, Head of the Jeep brand. “But we needed to do that to break through the segment.” With a tiered lighting arrangement and a pointy grille that were not at all like any contemporary Jeep, the Cherokee certainly stood out. But that was the intention: make an impact as Jeep returned with a vengeance to the segment dominated by names like CR-V and RAV4. The strategy worked, with the Cherokee selling well and nobody mentioning the “weird” styling ever again. “It did what it was supposed to do, it called attention to the vehicle,” says Mark Allen, Head of Jeep design. But when it was time to develop the refreshed 2019 Cherokee , he was asked to significantly tamp down on the crossover’s boldness – … [Read more...] about 2019 Jeep Cherokee Gets A More Traditional Face, Roomier Interior
COVID-19 vaccine makers face biggest medical manufacturing feat in history
CHICAGO: Developing a COVID-19 vaccine in record time will be tough. Producing enough to end the pandemic will be the biggest medical manufacturing feat in history. That work is underway. From deploying experts amid global travel restrictions to managing extreme storage conditions, and even inventing new kinds of vials and syringes for billions of doses, the path is strewn with formidable hurdles, according to Reuters interviews with more than a dozen vaccine developers and their backers. Any hitch in an untested supply chain – which could stretch from Pune in India to England's Oxford and Baltimore in the United States – could torpedo or delay the complex process. Colonel Nelson Michael, director of the US Army's Center for Infectious Disease Research who is working on the government's Warp Speed project to deliver a vaccine at scale by January, said companies usually have years to figure this stuff out. "Now, they have weeks." Much of the world's attention is focused … [Read more...] about COVID-19 vaccine makers face biggest medical manufacturing feat in history
Live in the audience for the final ‘Grease: Live’ dress rehearsal
BURBANK, Calif. — "Does this look Grease enough?" I asked my friend, adjusting my leather jacket and red heels. "Totally," she reassured me. It was 1 p.m. on Saturday — technically the call time for audience members for Fox's Grease: Live dress rehearsal — but I was running a late due to outfit selection difficulties. Fox had sent invited press, as well as selected audience members, a guide on how to dress for the dress rehearsal ahead of time. The three-hour live musical telecast, directed by Thomas Kail (who also directed Broadway's smash hit Hamilton ) stars Julianne Hough as innocent transfer student Sandy and Aaron Tveit as leading T-Bird Danny. Also on board: Vanessa Hudgens as leading Pink Lady Rizzo, Keke Palmer (Scream Queens) as the sassy Pink Lady Marty Maraschino, Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) as Danny’s tough-guy sidekick Kenickie, and Grammy-nominated pop artist Carly Rae Jepsen as beauty school dropout Frenchy. The show airs live on Fox on Sunday night. … [Read more...] about Live in the audience for the final ‘Grease: Live’ dress rehearsal
Government report challenges claims of carbon-neutral meat farms
Government scientists have busted research claims that our meat farms are close to carbon-neutral. One study – funded by Beef + Lamb – found that trees on sheep and beef farms are sucking up between 63 and 118 per cent of the greenhouse emissions produced. A new Ministry for the Environment report, released today, found the figure is closer to 33 per cent. The disputed number could have financial consequence for farmers. From 2025, farms are being asked to measure, reduce and potentially pay for their emissions – the methane burped out from animals plus the nitrous oxide produced in the soil. Beef + Lamb said this equation should also subtract any carbon dioxide absorbed by vegetation on farmland.
