The civil aviation ministry on Friday said bids have been sought for six underserved and 24 unserved airports and airstrips in the North East region under the latest round of regional air connectivity scheme. A water aerodrome in the region at Umrangso Reservoir, Assam is also included. The fourth round of bidding under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) or regional air connectivity scheme commenced on December 3. UDAN seeks to connect unserved and underserved airports as well as make flying more affordable. “With focus on connectivity of North eastern region, UDAN 4.0 scheme under the Ministry of Civil Aviation has invited bids for six underserved and 24 unserved airports/airstrips in the North East states of India,” an official release said. NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday said various provisions related to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 have been clarified to political leaders and some Chief Ministers of northeastern states. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on reports of protests in the North-East, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said several steps have been taken to preserve the cultural, social and linguistic identity, and the heritage of the northeastern people, in the Bill. He said the protests are due to certain "misplaced apprehensions" over the issue. The Minister said the Central government has also apprised the representatives of northeastern states of the steps. "Political leaders from northeastern states including some Chief Ministers have met the Home Minister on various issues related to northeast including the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. North Korean defector ‘was raped by South Korea intelligence officers and forced to have two abortions’
A North Korean defector claims she was forced to have two abortions after being raped by two intelligence officers from the South. A lieutenant colonel and a master sergeant serving in South's Korea's defence intelligence command allegedly raped the woman, with one of the men said to have abused her repeatedly. The victim claims the master sergeant sexually assaulted her dozens of times while she was in custody, the woman's lawyers said. Good Lawyers, the firm representing the woman, told the BBC she was first raped while supposedly unconscious from drinking alcohol. UDAN 4.0: Bids invited for 30 Airports/Airstrips, one Water Aerodrome in North-Eastern region
New Delhi: Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has invited bids for 6 underserved and 24 unserved airports/airstrips in the North-East states of India under the UDAN 4.0 scheme, said a government statement. The ministry has also recognized one Water Aerodrome location that is up for bidding in the region. "The efforts are constantly being undertaken to provide aerial connectivity to the region. The move will not only boost tourism but will also transform economic situation of the region. Under the UDAN 4.0 scheme, MoCA is also providing additional Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of around 25% to the airlines," the statement said.
