BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday (Nov 25) and expressed hope for a “win-win cooperation" amid conflicts over trade, technology and security. China became one of the last major governments to congratulate Biden. There was no explanation for the delay but some commentators suggest Beijing might want to avoid straining relations with President Donald Trump, who has not conceded. CNN's Jake Tapper compared President Joe Biden to former President Donald Trump on Friday following the administration's decision not to sanction Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. A U.S. intelligence report published on Friday concluded that bin Salman, commonly known as MBS in the west, approved of the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. The Biden administration announced sanctions and visa bans aimed at citizens of Saudi Arabia but declined to target MBS specifically. Millions of people in the state lost power for days, and water pipes burst in the freezing temperatures. “We’re in for the long haul,” Biden promised, citing the federal aid that he would make available. Biden traveled to Houston with First Lady Jill Biden to visit with local leaders, Congressional Democrats, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, and Texas Sen.
