Global cooperation on public health crises, advancing the reform of global governance and preserving multilateralism are likely to top China's diplomatic agenda this year, according to senior diplomats, scholars and political advisers. By doing so, the building of the community of a shared future for mankind will gain greater impetus and, in return, could help the world grasp more opportunities and minimize the economic and social impacts amid unprecedented downturns, they added. The comments came as the world's second-largest economy takes the lead in the production and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, seeks to resume trade and logistics to bolster economic recovery and champions the authority of leading international organizations to preserve equity and justice worldwide. Over the past year, diplomats like Zhang Qiyue, China's ambassador to Greece, have seen the COVID-19 pandemic disrupt social life and deal a heavy blow to economic development, causing serious losses … [Read more...] about Diplomats ready to tap into opportunities for world

Panasonic 65HZ1000 TV review: My eyes didn’t know telly could look this good
TELLY fans, behold true greatness: the Panasonic 65HZ1000. I’ve been testing this monstrously impressive TV for a few weeks – and I’ll never be the same again. Like the luxury car or mountain lodge of my dreams, it’s big, beautiful and expensive. And warm. And full of Netflix? Anyway, as you’d expect, it’s got a whopping great 65-inch 4K screen. The 4K bit means it boasts four times the number of pixels of a standard Full HD telly. But it’s not just any screen: it’s an OLED. Most TVs out in the wild are LED-backlit LCDs. That means a giant backlight shines light through a liquid-crystal display to create an image. By contrast, an OLED has pixels that illuminate themselves. So on an OLED telly, individual pixels can be turned on or off, creating a true black. This greater control over pixels means you get significantly improved contrast and a wider range of colours to boot. I lost around an hour just watching YouTube videos designed for OLED TVs, with … [Read more...] about Panasonic 65HZ1000 TV review: My eyes didn’t know telly could look this good
George Floyd trial: Five key moments including new video shown as defence starts
A murder jury watched new footage of an earlier arrest of George Floyd which a defence witness claimed shows the slain man as 'non-compliant.' In the footage Mr Floyd was described as nervous and anxious and becoming distressed when a gun was pointed at him. A paramedic later said that Mr Floyd would tell her he consumed opioids as he was an addict. After weeks of prosecution evidence in the major murder trial in Minnesota, US the defence began its own case on Tuesday. Prosecutors claim that Derek Chauvin murdered Mr Floyd during an arrest outside a store where he was filmed kneeling on the slain man's neck. Chauvin, 45, denies second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. At court on Wednesday the first witness was called by Chauvin's defence team. Scott Creighton, a now-retired Minneapolis police officer, pulled over a car in which Mr Floyd was a passenger in 2019, a year before the deadly encounter with Chauvin. The jury saw a video … [Read more...] about George Floyd trial: Five key moments including new video shown as defence starts
Daunte Wright: Black man, 20, killed by police near George Floyd trial ‘was an accident’
The shooting of a young black man in Minneapolis was 'accidental' and caused by an officer opening fire with her gun instead of a Taser, the city's police chief said. Daunte Wright, 20, died after the shooting in Brooklyn Centre, Minneapolis, just 10 miles from the courtroom where ex-officer Derek Chauvin is being tried for killing George Floyd. Mr Wright's devastated mother said her son told her he was pulled over because he had air fresheners hanging in his back window. Brooklyn Centre Police Chief Tim Gannon told a news briefing that a routine traffic stop escalated into a deadly confrontation when officers ran a check on Mr Wright's expired vehicle registration and found an outstanding warrant for him. Police video footage presented at the briefing showed an officer trying to handcuff him next to the car, before Mr Wright broke free and got back inside. At that point, a second officer yells, "Taser, Taser, Taser," before firing a single shot from her handgun. … [Read more...] about Daunte Wright: Black man, 20, killed by police near George Floyd trial ‘was an accident’
