Last time we saw the gang behind the world's most popular MMORPG, Mythic Quest, lead engineer Poppy Li had been promoted to co-creative director—full partners with the comically narcissistic Ian Grimm. Actually, that was just the last time we saw them in the office . A special episode of Mythic Quest in May of last year, made during the pandemic, showed the team struggling to deal with the isolation and uncertainty of COVID-19. Today, another special episode of Mythic Quest airs on Apple TV+, and it serves as sort of a bookend to the Quarantine episode. The team is back in the office (except for writer CW Longbottom, who is commuting remotely), but while things are looking up, there's still an awful lot of unpleasantness to shake off after a year in lockdown. Also, they're all dressed like complete dorks, at least according to the eternal anti-nerd Brad from Monetization. Everlight, we learn, is an in-game holiday in the Mythic Quest game world, but it's not just celebrated by … [Read more...] about Mythic Quest’s special ‘Everlight’ episode: the gang goes LARPing

Wild Pink Found Beauty Where it Didn’t Exist to Make 2021’s Best Rock Album
“Sometimes I’m trying to create this amazing world in my songs that’s like, not actually reality,” says Wild Pink’s John Ross. Photo: Mitchell Wojcik “Nothing ever means nothing,” John Ross declares on “Amalfi,” a song off his band Wild Pink’s fantastic third album, A Billion Little Lights . It could be an unofficial motto for the New York rock trio. From the band’s early EPs and 2017 debut album, Wild Pink has always committed to the idea that details matter, small or otherwise. In his songs, Ross scatters one-off thoughts and lines from conversations across detailed scenes and landscapes, often rendered in just a few lines. Specificity is his strength, whether he’s referencing a landmark or a movie. On A Billion Little Lights , more than ever, that maxim extends to the songs themselves. “I wanted the record to sound as big as it did in my head,” Ross says on a morning phone call. That meant doubling down on the synthesizers and pedal steel that had rooted Wild Pink’s … [Read more...] about Wild Pink Found Beauty Where it Didn’t Exist to Make 2021’s Best Rock Album

At a press event today in New York, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that the Wii U will launch in the United States on Sunday, November 18. The system will come in two configurations: A white basic set at $299.99 that comes with 8GB on built-in memory, plus a Wii U GamePad, AC adapter, and HDMI cable. A black deluxe set, costing $349.99, will include everything in the basic bundle plus 32GB of total flash storage, a GamePad charging cradle, stands for the GamePad and console, and a copy of NintendoLand. The deluxe edition will also let users redeem points for every digital download purchased for the system. Overnight, Nintendo announced that the Wii U would launch in Japan on December 8 starting at ¥26,250 (about $337).
