When power couple and co-founders of Singapore’s Step Studio, Stephanie Loh Kai Wei and Deo Amarawi Hogiono, introduced their beautiful daughter, Sasha Hallie Hogiono to the world, little did they know their life was going to change completely. Parenthood was an incredible experience for this young couple, but it also brought about some unprecedented challenges. At just 17-months-old, Sasha was diagnosed with epilepsy after suffering seizures, turning the lives of the entrepreneur couple upside down. But Stephanie and Deo remain resilient as they fight for their daughter’s health. Recently, Stephanie decided to share her story on Instagram and received heartwarming support from all parts of the world. "Fifteen months in, Sasha suffered her first cluster of six seizures. I carried on with CNY (Chinese New Year) celebrations as if I really believed it would bring good fengshui... Deep down I knew I was just afraid I would lose the life I expected to have when I had a baby. "A … [Read more...] about Raising my 17-month-old daughter with epilepsy: Singapore mum shares her story

Epic Games is generating a lot of news lately, mainly due to the ongoing court battle against Apple . And, as a side-effect of that trial, a slew of documents that have recently been revealed shedding a bit more light on how the company operates. For instance, we learned that Epic spent over $11 million on free games in the first nine months of giveaways. The document showed how much Epic paid developers to secure their games as freebies, along with how many new Epic Game Store accounts were created to claim those games. Pretty interesting stuff. I know a lot of people claim Epic Games Store's free games , including many of us here at PC Gamer. But how many of us actually play those games, instead of just logging in to nab them and then completely forgetting about them? I asked our writers if they were actually playing the free games or just banking them for some distant rainy day. You can tell us your own free game habits in the comments below. Jarred Walton: I’ve … [Read more...] about How many free Epic Store games have you actually played?
With the support of my lovely bride of over 32 years, I was recently able to retire. While she continues to work, there are no more 10-hour workdays for me. God bless that woman. However, because of COVID-19 restrictions, my plans to do volunteer work have been temporarily altered. Even after my vaccination, I am still somewhat fearful of this wretched disease, so I find myself at home a lot. Of course, this is not all bad. I have learned to be quiet as my wife works from home on certain days. Quiet is OK because I have found things to keep me busy. The dirty dishes are not left in the sink. The dishwasher is emptied and filled promptly. The coffee pot is always set up for the next day. No more is there a pile of clean clothes in a chair waiting to be folded. The flower bed is now practically weed free. I get great pleasure that my first vegetable garden seems to be doing well. However, during this quiet time, I have discovered that there is a lot of stuff in our house. What … [Read more...] about Human Condition: What do we do with all this stuff?
Monday on FNC’s “Fox & Friends,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) reacted to an announced visit by President Joe Biden to his home state of Louisiana. Kennedy speculated it was to promote an infrastructure spending agenda. The Louisiana Republican offered some ideas on working with Biden to increase revenues without raising the corporate income tax. “I don’t have a lot of details,” Kennedy said of the visit. “It’s always an honor when a president visits your state. I’m sure the president’s coming in to say I’m the candy man, and I’ve got more free stuff for you. The problem is that there’s nothing free. Anything free somebody had to work for. The president’s plan is not an infrastructure plan. Only 5 percent of it goes to infrastructure. It’s really a Green New Deal and welfare plan, and it’s a mess. It looks like somebody — somebody knocked over a urine sample. Now, we can fix it if we stick to, A, infrastructure, and B, we have serious discussions about how to pay for it. I can … [Read more...] about GOP Sen. Kennedy: Biden Louisiana Trip to Say ‘I’m the Candy Man and I’ve Got More Free Stuff for You’
Source: Evan/flickr The illusion of free will was born in the felt experience of individuals, raised on the bosom of faulty philosophy , but has since starved from lack of scientific nourishment. Those who claim we possess libertarian free will—that we are consciously free to author our thoughts and actions—are invoking a metaphysical doctrine that a miracle takes place every time someone makes a decision. There is no way for us to reconcile what we know about the world scientifically with the claim that we were free to act differently than we did in the past. As neuroscientist Sam Harris has pointed out, “We are not self-caused little gods.” I recently wrote an article arguing how the illusion of free will provides a basis for blame and shame in mental illness. If the mind is truly free, it is understandable why one would think illness of the mind must also be free; free to change if one chose to do so; free to be prevented from occurring in the first place. But … [Read more...] about Why Psychiatry Should Discard the Idea of Free Will
