I signed up for T-Mobile’s $50 unlimited home internet service. Here’s what happened

· February 24, 2021 ·

I don't know what you're paying for home internet service, but I'll wager it's more than you'd like it to be -- and probably inching up all the time. For example, Comcast charges me $106 a month just for internet (I ditched TV about a year ago), a rate that seems to increase a few bucks every couple months. So when I learned that T-Mobile Home Internet was available in my area, promising unlimited high-speed service for a flat $50 monthly -- equipment, taxes and fees included -- I jumped at the chance to try it. The headline here is how the display is fixed … [Read more...] about Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) Review: The true smart home command center

Top legislature to work on food security law

· February 25, 2021 ·

Making a law guaranteeing food security has been put on the work agenda this year of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, China's top legislature, a senior legislator said. "Specifications on saving food and reducing losses in food processing, storage and transportation will be clarified in the draft law," Yuan Jie, head of the administrative law department of the NPC Standing Committee's Legislative Affairs Commission, said early this month. The legislative work is another step toward implementing a central leadership call for the country to promote healthy, rational and green lifestyles and consumption habits. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, President Xi Jinping has frequently emphasized the need to stop the wasting of food, but the problem still exists, is often complained about by the public and has been described as a "stubborn disease". After Xi stressed the need to put an end to the wasting of food and build a … [Read more...] about Top legislature to work on food security law

Privacy and security in messaging apps, explained

· February 24, 2021 ·

Between you and me Privacy and security are two very different things that often get lumped together. Especially when it comes to messaging apps. Jerry Hildenbrand 24 Feb 2021 1 Source: Jerry Hildenbrand / Android Central You just got one of the best Android phones and chances are one of the first things you'll do is message a friend to tell them the good news. When we send a message to someone, we should expect a few things: that they'll get the message, nobody else can read the message, and no other company is tracking anything we do while we're chatting it up. Unfortunately, it doesn't usually work that way. Most one-on-one ways to message someone are secure to an extent. Nobody can read your Twitter DMs unless they are logged in as you. Google and Facebook spend a lot of money to make sure the servers that transmit messages are locked-down tight. Apps like Signal and Telegram are developed with help from security specialists to make them … [Read more...] about Privacy and security in messaging apps, explained
