Marlborough, where million-dollar houses aren’t what they used to be

· April 20, 2021 ·

The definition of a million-dollar house is changing in Marlborough, where the average house price just keeps rising. The region’s median house price during March was a record $664,000, up 27.7 per cent on March 2020 when it was $520,000, the latest figures from Real Estate Institute of New Zealand showed. The top three residential sales in Marlborough were $1.8 million, $1.28m and $1.125m. Summit Marlborough sales manager Nadine Thomas said she was stunned each time she heard what sort of houses had sold for more than $1m. U.S. House again passes Colorado congressman’s marijuana banking bill

· April 19, 2021 ·

The U.S. House of Representatives on Monday passed the SAFE Banking Act , a longtime priority for Coloradans in Congress and local cannabis companies. The House voted 321-101 on the bill, with all Colorado Democrats in favor and two Colorado Republicans opposed. A third Republican, Rep. Lauren Boebert , did not vote. It now moves to the U.S. Senate, which is split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, and some in the latter party worry passing it will increase marijuana use and foreign investments. The legislation , which has been introduced every Congress since 2013 by Rep. Ed Perlmutter , would allow credit unions and banks to work with cannabis companies. Because marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, Colorado’s multibillion-dollar cannabis industry has operated primarily in cash since legalization. “I hope this bill is an icebreaker for the House to take up other reforms and finally remove the conflict between state and federal laws,” Perlmutter … [Read more...] about U.S. House again passes Colorado congressman’s marijuana banking bill

Flashback: Luther Vandross Stuns Dionne Warwick With ‘A House Is Not a Home’

· April 20, 2021 ·

Luther Vandross was facing a formidable crowd when he took the stage to perform “A House Is Not a Home” at the 1986 NAACP Image Awards. Janet Jackson was there, already a superstar thanks to her recently released Control , as was Anita Baker , a high-flying vocalist whose new Rapture album was well on its way to 5 million copies sold. Most notably, the crowd contained Dionne Warwick , the Entertainer of the Year honoree, who had released the Burt Bacharach–Hal David composition “A House Is Not a Home” as a single 24 years before. Vandross was not intimidated — by the end of his performance, the crowd was roaring, and Warwick was wiping away a tear. Vandross, a vocal fan of Warwick who collaborated with her during the Eighties, first released his cover of “A House Is Not a Home” in 1981. One of his innovations was to change the song’s pacing. Warwick’s version feels rushed, but this is a song that needs space to maximize its drama. Vandross opened it up and stretched it … [Read more...] about Flashback: Luther Vandross Stuns Dionne Warwick With ‘A House Is Not a Home’

· April 20, 2021 ·

SPENCER Matthews has come under fire for “reaffirming gay stereotypes” during an appearance on This Is My House. Pop star Will Young, 42, expressed his outrage while watching the show after the former Made In Chelsea star asked who ‘the least gay person is’. Spencer, 32, appeared on the Stacey Dooley fronted show alongside wife Vogue Williams and took part in guessing who a home belonged to when he made the comment in response to someone asking who used the most hairpsray. Following the show Will, who came out shortly after appearing on Pop Idol in 2002, took to Instagram to tell his fans he had found it very offensive and demanded answers from the BBC and Spencer. He wrote:  “ASKING 'WHO IS THE LEAST GAY' ON @BBCIPLAYER @BBC #THISISMYHOUSEBBC1 I FIND COMPLETELY OFFENSIVE . "WHAT DOES 'LEAST GAY' MEAN?
