BREAKING THIS MORNING: The same Russian military intelligence service accused of disrupting the 2016 presidential election in America may also be responsible for the nerve agent attack in Britain against a former Russian spy, the New York Times reports in a big front-pager today. It comes hours before U.S. President Donald Trump sits down for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. DRIVING THE DAY CUSTOMS CRUNCH: Theresa May faces yet another Brexit showdown in parliament this evening as the customs bill returns to the Commons for its final stages. Government whips spent the weekend scrambling to head off a backbench rebellion, as the Tory Brexit Squad flex their muscles. The European Research Group (ERG) caucus of backbench Tory Brexiteers has laid four amendments to the customs bill — actually called the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Bill — which, taken together, would effectively kill off the PM’s Chequers plan.
